Forts, castles, and houses could be created from a couple of boxes or pillows. In time we "grew out of it" and became "more real." The practices of yoga make the radical affirmation, that just as naturally as 2018 turned in to 2019, we are always turning out as more of our self. In yogasana the imagination is invited to participate. Imagine a tree, a warrior, a bridge, and the body/mind can delight in the process of transforming itself. In the twists, especially, we are invited into world of exploration and discovery. Your DNA Twists and turns and is resolved to evolve. The asanas affect not only our muscles, internal organs, and subtle body systems, but transform our perceptions and conception of life itself! Expect and orderly sequence of postures. If you have tow hips and two shoulders, you can play along, and discover where your next step lies. It just might turn out that you discover that you already have everything that you need. AprilSaturday, April 27 - Somatics for Hips, Legs & Walking - 12:00pm-4:00pm
Somatic Exercises were developed by Thomas Hanna PhD as a time efficient gentle means of enhancing voluntary control of movement and posture. The exercises are based in methods of somatic education developed by Hanna during 17 years practice of the Feldenkrais Method and are informed by current theories of sensory-motor learning, biofeedback training and Hanna’s long time practice and teaching of yoga. Efficiency of bodily movement is achieved by using sensory awareness to inform control of muscle activity. Increasing body awareness enables better internal regulation of posture/movement. Helmut Milz MD, former consultant to the World Health Organization said “these exercises could make a real difference for the vast number of people who suffer from musculoskeletal ailments.” This Somatic Exercise workshop is valuable for hikers, runners, dancers or anyone wishing to enjoy greater comfort, efficiency and endurance of locomotion. Led by Dave MacDougall. Cost is $75 per person. |
