About Myself and Earthshine
About Earthshine and myself...
Earthshine was opened in 2015 by Jackie Foster and Amy Kohanski, and after teaching at Earthshine for a few years I took over as owner in 2018. When the Coronavirus hit and stay-at-home orders were issued the studio closed and the future of the studio became uncertain, but after much consideration I decided to make Earthshine Yoga Studio a sole proprietorship, offer classes virtually, and in-person classes various locations.
I began my journey with yoga only a few years ago in 2014. I started practicing hot vinyasa at the insistence of a friend of mine, and immediately fell in love with the practice and the cathartic rhythm of movement and breath, coupled with heat. After sometime I decided to attend their 200 hour High Peaks Yoga Teacher Training, just as a way to deepen my own personal practice, however, upon completing my training I came to the realization that I wanted try my hand at teaching as a way to challenge myself personally. When I began on this whole journey I had no intention on ever teaching classes, but yet, once I began teaching I realized I had so much more to learn, not only in my own practice but in my teaching style, and wanting a better understanding of the other practices of yoga. Since then my personal practice and teaching style have changed greatly. I encourage attendees to move slow, linger in poses, notice how they feel, and create a better connection with their bodies. I have since went on to become certified in Yin, Restorative, Deep Restorative, Reiki Level 2, and a deeper study of yoga's history and philosophy.
I believe that yoga is for everyone, and is not accomplished by how a pose looks or your ability to do a particular pose. Yoga is meant to be felt, and it is something much larger than the poses themselves. It is the catalyst that takes you from being in your mind to feeling in your body, and is truly transformational practice. I encourage a practice that includes anyone of any age or physical ability. Yoga is meant to bring you into the moment.
